We reported this Bylaws amendment proposal along with this summary at the March 10 General Membership meeting. We are proposing three changes:
- Our Bylaws currently don’t allow a Member-at-Large to also serve as a School Leadership Team delegate, but this appears to be in conflict with the NYC DOE Chancellor’s Regulations. So we want to align our Bylaws with the Chancellor’s Regulations.
- Our Bylaws currently require fractional voting for committee co-chairs at Executive Board meetings (e.g., half a vote for each co-chair of a committee with two co-chairs), but this violates the principle of one vote per person. So we want to eliminate fractional voting.
- Our Bylaws currently impose a particular order of business at each GM meeting, but we want to provide flexibility to set the agenda without requiring a vote at the beginning of each meeting.
To amend our Bylaws, we need to present the proposal in writing at a GM meeting (as we have done on March 10), and then we need a two-thirds majority of those who vote at a following GM meeting to approve the Bylaws changes. Please send any comments or questions to bylaws@stuy-pa.org
