For more than 100 years, Stuyvesant High School has been one of the finest and most honored schools in the nation. A crucial reason for this excellence is the active and vital role parents play in supporting our school. The fact is, Stuyvesant receives one of the lowest per-pupil annual budgets of any high school in New York City. In order to maintain our outstanding array of advanced courses, sophisticated technology and superb extracurricular offerings, the Parents' Association must significantly supplement the funding provided by the Department of Education. With the Class of 2010 the largest in several years, the need is particularly critical.
Every May, the Parents' Association conducts a Phonathon Fundraiser to support the many programs and activities not provided for in the Department of Education budget. Last year the Phonathon raised about $350,000 to help our exceptionally talented students which helps fund after-school clubs and organizations, 31 athletic teams, numerous publications and newspapers, student government, science fairs and competitions, bands, orchestra and chorus, the Fall Musical, the Winter Drama and SING!
In addition, your donation to the Parents' Association assists with direct instruction by supporting teacher and faculty requests for: Advanced Placement textbooks not provided by the DOE, new equipment for biology, chemistry, physics and robotics labs, college office services, musical instruments and art supplies, foreign language instruction and materials, and the upgrading of computer networks, servers and PC's. The funds raised in May 2006 will fund the budget for the 2006-2007 school year, so your child will benefit immediately. These are all essential aspects of life at Stuyvesant that would NOT exist without parents' assistance.
We ask every family to donate $500 (this works out to $1.37 a day!). If you can give more, we of course encourage you to do so. If less, we assure you that every donation is welcome and will be put to good use. All donations are fully tax-deductible. Our goal is to have every family give whatever it can so that we achieve 100% participation.
You can save us a call during Phonathon, May 8th, 9th, and 10th, by donating now. This year, we have added the ability to donate online at www.stuy-pa.org. It's quick and easy. If your employer has a matching fund, click on the Matching Gifts Clearinghouse icon. Or, you can send a check along with your pledge card made out to: Stuyvesant H.S. Parents' Association - Phonathon, or record your credit card number and the amount you are donating on the pledge card and mail it in. Match Your Gift information is enclosed. All donations are 100% tax deductible, as allowed by law. You will receive acknowledgement of your donation by mail. Whichever way you choose, we're grateful for your donation.
If we receive your donation by April 25, we'll remove your name from the call list. Early receipt of your contribution will also greatly assist the PA and the administration in planning for the upcoming school year. Additionally, if your employer matches charitable donations, please indicate this on the enclosed pledge card. The dates of Phonathon 2006 are Monday, May 8, Tuesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 10. Together let us make Phonathon 2006 truly memorable. Our students are counting on us. We know we can count on you. Many thanks.
