How to Help Stuyvesant High School

Sometimes it takes a crisis to reveal in people their generosity and willingness to help.Stuyvesant High School - the premier science and technology public school in New York City - has always been known as a special place.Students, parents, teachers, administrators - they make up a community unlike any other school in the country.

Because of the World Trade Center disaster, we now know that the special Stuyvesant community is much broader than we thought. Alumni, parents of alumni, fellow public schools stretching from New York to Oregon and London, even individuals who know about the school but have no direct relationship have come forward, asking what can they do to help?

Most people and organizations have expressed a desire to make contributions to the school - and financial help is exactly what the school will need going forward. Every year, the Stuyvesant Parents’ Association raises funds and creates a “Wish List” of items we then purchase for the school. This year, the Wish List will probably have to be amended; there will be more urgent uses for those funds than the original items we identified this summer.

We don’t know exactly what unanticipated expenses we face - we are not even able to bring the students back into the building yet - but we know the financial needs will be large. If you would like to help with a donation, the Stuyvesant community would be very grateful.

We will be sure to acknowledge your contribution, and we will keep you informed as to how your dollars are put to use.Checks should be made out to Stuyvesant High School PA Recovery Fund and sent to:

Stuyvesant High School PA Recovery Fund
P.O. Box
3531, Church Street Station
New York, NY 10008-3531

Again, your willingness to help Stuyvesant in what are very tough times is greatly appreciated.Thank you all.
